Dive torch / underwater light
Also: dive light, primary light
A dive torch is a handheld waterproof lamp. You use it to see clearly in dark environments or when visibility drops below 5 m. Most divers carry one because it helps spot macro life like nudibranchs during night dives. Many lights cost between $150 and $400 USD.
I once lost a dive in Cebu because my primary light failed at 18 m. Always carry a backup light on your BCD. This prevents panic if your main unit dies. Check the O-rings before every single trip. A tiny hair can cause a leak that ruins your expensive gear. Make sure you have fresh batteries or a charged power bank ready for the boat ride.
