Why I write this site
I stopped instructing in 2023 to focus on writing. The dive industry has a hard time producing honest pre-trip information — schools have incentive to oversell, booking platforms rank by commission, and trip reports on social media are biased toward positive experiences. This site is what I'd give a friend who asked: "I want to dive Southeast Asia next year, where do I start."
What I cover
- Destinations — 5 SE Asia regions I know well
- Dive sites — 30 sites I have personally dived
- Guides — safety, courses, equipment, freediving, planning
- Tools — calculators built from agency tables I've used in practice
What I don't cover
I don't write about regions I haven't dived (Maldives, Red Sea, Caribbean, Galapagos — guides for those exist from people who actually dive them regularly). I don't write about tech beyond intro level (cave, decompression, rebreather — those need active instructors writing). I don't recommend gear I haven't owned for ≥6 months.
