Steel HP/LP tanks
Also: HP100, LP85
A steel tank is a heavy metal cylinder used to hold compressed breathing gas. These tanks are often called HP100 or LP85 because of their internal volume and pressure ratings. Most dive centers in Koh Tao or Cebu use these because they sink more easily than aluminum models. This weight helps you stay stable while you descend to 30 m depths. You will find them on many liveaboards in Komodo since they provide better trim for technical diving. Always check your weight belt before your first dive. A common mistake is forgetting that steel tanks are much heavier when they are empty. If you use an HP100, you might need 2 kg less lead than usual because the tank itself provides extra negative buoyancy.
