Rescue Diver certification
The Rescue Diver certification is a training course that focuses on managing diver stress and responding to emergencies. You learn how to recognize signs of panic and how to assist a buddy in distress. Most agencies like PADI or SSI require this level before you can take advanced specialties. It affects your safety margins during group dives in heavy currents or low visibility. I noticed a massive difference in my own comfort levels after completing this course in Koh Tao back in 2014.
Many students focus too much on the physics of air consumption. They forget that managing a panicked diver requires calm, physical control. Do not try to wrestle a struggling diver if they are gasping for air. Instead, use your training to manage the distance between you and the victim. This prevents both of you from running out of air before you reach the surface.
