Open Water Diver certification (entry)
Also: OWD, OW
The Open Water Diver certification is the basic license for recreational scuba diving. Most agencies like PADI or SSI use this standard for entry-level divers. You can dive to a maximum depth of 18 m while accompanied by a buddy. This level allows you to book trips in places like Koh Tao or Cebu. It affects which boat trips you can join because many liveaboards require at least an Advanced certification.
Do not rush the pool sessions. I saw many students struggle in the ocean because they skipped buoyancy drills during their initial training. Practice your mask clearing until it feels natural. A common mistake is trying to dive too deep too fast. Stay within your limits. Stick to the 18 m depth until you earn more credentials.
