Underwater Navigator specialty
An Underwater Navigator is a diver who uses tools and environment cues to move between specific points. This skill prevents you from getting lost during low visibility or high surge. You will mostly use this training in drift dives or wreck explorations where landmarks disappear quickly. Many divers try to navigate by sight alone because they forget that silt clouds everything instantly. I once saw a group lose their way in Anilao after a single heavy kick stirred up the sand. Always check your compass heading against a known landmark before you leave the reef edge. If you cannot see the sun or a fixed object, trust your instrument over your gut feeling. A mistake here often leads to unnecessary decompression stops or missed surface intervals.
