Split fins (efficiency design)
Also: splits
Split fins feature a central split in the blade. This design allows the rubber to bend more easily.
They work well for recreational divers who want to save energy. You will feel less leg fatigue during long swims because the blades flex independently. Most divers use them for sightseeing or slow drift dives. However, they do not provide the same kick power as stiff fins in heavy currents. I found them difficult to use in Komodo when the surge was strong.
You should avoid these if you plan to swim against a 3 knot current. Stick to stiff blades for technical work or heavy water. Check your ankle strength before buying them. Some beginners find the sensation strange at first.
