Deep Diver specialty (to 40m)

The Deep Diver specialty allows you to descend to a maximum depth of 40 m. This training is essential because it provides the technical foundation needed for deeper reef walls or wrecks. You will learn about nitrogen narcosis and how gas consumption changes at depth.

Most divers use this after their Advanced Open Water course. In places like Komodo, many interesting sites sit between 30 m and 40 m. You must monitor your air closely since gas density increases as you go deeper.

A common mistake is ignoring the rapid rise in nitrogen absorption. I saw a diver in Cebu in 2018 struggle because he forgot his consumption rate changed at 35 m. Always plan your ascent carefully. Watch your computer constantly.
