Barracuda species
A barracuda is a fast, silver predator with sharp teeth and a long body. These fish hunt smaller prey using speed and sudden strikes. You will see them frequently in places like Komodo or Cebu. They often hover near reef edges or patrol open water at depths of 15 m to 30 m. Large schools can appear suddenly because nutrient-rich currents bring in plenty of food.
Watch your buoyancy. Many divers accidentally drift too close to a patrolling specimen. While most species are not aggressive toward humans, they react quickly to sudden movements. Do not swim erratically near them. If you see a large individual, keep a steady distance so you do not trigger a defensive reaction.
